Cut at a Different Angle

Looking down at a professional baseball field with the beautiful patterns displayed in the outfield grass.. you can see the intricacy of the design. It can be labeled a masterpiece in the way each strip connects to another. Each piece stands alone yet when placed side by side they form a work of art.

I realize it’s just grass. It was all planted in the same soil, it’s been watered at the same time every day from the same hose. It’s even been fertilized from the same bag of fertilizer and cut with the same mower. The rows were just cut at a different angle to achieve the mosaic displayed.

Each row, standing alone, would be a normal plain row of cut grass. But when rows cut from different angles are placed side-by-side the beauty is spectacular.

Looking closer at the field occasionally a weed or two will take root. But fertilizer is an amazing thing.  Through the process of strengthening the good grass already deep rooted in the field, the weeds get overcome with solid healthy strong grass.  (Silently the weeds are all told to go take root in Yankee stadium)

How is our humanity any different than this beautiful mosaic field of grass?

We are fed, watered and nourished from the same earth.

Individually we can be great but surrounded by others whose beauty lies in being cut at a different angle, we become a community of strength; A fortitude that can bring about change. We can bond each strip into one that will choke out the weeds.

"Never doubt the strength or beauty in humanity."

Especially when they work together sharing the same goal.  Surrounding yourself with people and accepting those who have strengths that are different than yours does not make you weak – instead it is the definition of strength at its core. And the final product is a masterpiece worthy of the best museums – or baseball parks.
