I Stand Alone

I stand alone.

Do not be saddened by my solidarity. This is where I find my strength; this is where I am steadfast. In this place, my mind is focused. Here I have clarity.

In this place I rise, not to look down on those around me or to be looked up to, but for others to see my acceptance.  To grasp the understanding – to be empowered in the knowledge that I am different. I strive to be better. I strive to push through; to not only become what is intended but to become the part of me that is greatness.

To stand above, to show we are not all shades of grey – we are each a palette of hues blossoming to brightness that is meant to be exchanged.

I do not strive for equality because to work to be equal means I want to be the same; it means I have allowed someone else to set the limit for my abilities. Or that I would be accepting that there is only one level to be reached and that my friend, is mediocre.

I refuse.

I declare equality to be boring; lazy; half-assed. If you choose to stop at mediocre you are slamming the door on greatness. You are accepting the world without color – without life.

Life is not meant to be watched from the confines of equal. Life is meant to be lived, dancing within the valleys, shouting from the mountain tops. Life is meant to be expressed – not in ego, not in condescending attitudes – but in a rapture of senses.

Feeling the wind brush your cheek is not the same as walking headstrong into its gait. Sinking your toes into the grass is not the same as knowing that each individual blade is one that can catapult you forward.  Tasting the water on your tongue is nothing like splashing through puddles in joyful defiance.

Do not settle for okay. Do not live on the middle ground.

Do not slam the door on greatness.

You, my friend, are chaining your soul to the concrete floor of commonness. The chain that holds you is fear coated in self-doubt.  This is not how your life was meant to be.

Tomorrow as you rise from your slumber, wash away the film hindering your vision. Breathe in the life – bask in the moment.  For this breathe – this existence – this is not meant to be the frail net of mediocre. This is the fractured piece of glass to be polished – to shine!  Rub off the tarnished edges so you can be brilliant.

So that you too can step it up and Raise The Bar Higher.
