Sit With Me, One More Time

Will you sit by me til our journey ends?

Will we continue to be lovers as well as friends?

When my skin has weathered and my hair turned grey,

Will you stay and talk with me for one more day?

When my hearing is weak and my eyesight has waned;

After years of decisions with no one to blame;

With regrets that are few and memories full,

Will your shoulder be strong and your arms console?

Our love has been strong when our like has thinned,

Our family has grown and gone once again.

Yet through every step, pothole and hill,

You’ve been my steadfast, my rock, my balance, my still.

The sun rises and sets, the tide comes and goes;

And as the sand fills the glass, one thing I know.

Love isn’t perfect, it’s confusing and pure.

Sit close by my side let me whisper in your ear.

Come closer my love, we’ve traveled this far.

As dusk starts to settle we will wish on a star.

That glorious star shines bright in the night;

With you close by my side – I know all will be right.

So lay your head on my shoulder if you feel the need.

There’s more to our journey  – much more indeed.
